What is Boro?
Boro is essentially the practice of using a simple running stitch (a sashiko stitch) to reinforce a textile item using spare or would-be-discarded scraps of fabric. It is a practice that grew out of necessity in medieval Japan, and has evolved, four centuries later, into a distinctively gorgeous textile artform. Like sashiko itself, boro combines practical functionality with beauty.
Workshop Summary
During this relaxing workshop, we will learn the art of Boro stitching whilst creating a cute little sewing book. Each attendee will have 6 pieces of cotton fabric naturally dyed with indigo, wool blend felt for the interior, embroidery floss and needle plus backing material.
This is a gentle and meditative practice using simple running stitch in various styles to create this beautiful little sewing book. The perfect introduction to Sashiko.
