Summary: We need to become more aligned with the concept that something being “broken” does not mean that it is useless. Nor do we have to see the concept of actually restoring something as making it ‘as new’.
Kintsugi teaches us that in life we can turn adversity into something that is beautiful and resilient and shows us that in time, we can heal from our wounds, embrace our imperfections, and become stronger.
Kintsugi known as the golden repair translates as ‘kin’ meaning gold and ‘tsugi’ meaning ‘join’.
Workshop/Skills Learned
We will break out bowl with intention, re-piece it back together, sand the joins and clean. A demo on how to use the two part premium non toxic epoxy glue will be given and how to use gravity to work with each pair. We will then clean and finessse before finally gilding using a specific gilding paint before a final clean and finish. At the end you will have visibly repaired a Japanese inspired piece of pottery, learnt new skills and hopefully have an enjoyable, relaxing and meaningful experience.
We will take our time and gently convert our bowl into a beautiful piece to display and cherish reminding us that no matter our difficulties, we can find a way to reframe and find meaning in life.
