You will gain an understanding of the history, technical terms, and the chemical processes involved with making ceramics.
Each week you will be introduced to a new hand building technique like pinching, coiling, and slab building. As your skills improve the use of moulds and basic throwing on the wheel will be introduced. Once you become familiar with the ceramic process you will learn how to apply glazes and slips for decorating.
The classes are kept to a maximum of 6 people per class to guarantee a relaxing and rewarding experience. There will be plenty of demonstrations and expert advice to provide you with a strong foundation for future learning. Additional courses will be available to build upon your core skills and develop your creativity further.
This class is open to anyone from previous cycles wishing to continue with their journey.
The course will take a weeks break after the third week meaning there will be no event on June 24th 2020.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to attend the event? Contact the course tutor to check the age requirements for a workshop if not already specified.
What time should I arrive? We recommend you arrive 5-10 minutes in advance if your workshop time to ensure a prompt start. If your workshop starts at 10am, please note that access will given no earlier than 9.50am to allow us to set up The Barn for 10am opening. If you have travelled and have arrived early, we recommend you grab a cuppa from our lovely friends over at Tel Island Food bar, an amazing indie coffee shop on Milner Rd, just a minutes walk away. There are plenty of other coffee houses in Heswall too.
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the venue? On street parking on Pye Rd is limited & primarily for disabled car users. The car park to the rear of The Barn is private and restricted in the daytime to Barn staff & tutors only but is often freely available evenings after 6pm. Otherwise May Road car park is accessible within a short walk of The Barn. This is a meter operated system. Public transport links are nearby with the main bus depot being a short walk to The Barn. The venue is easily accessible on foot from Heswall Centre and is located on the same street as The Johnny Pye pub and around the corner from the main PO/Sass hairdressers.
How accessible is the venue? The workshop space is located on the upper floor and accessed via approximately 10 wooden steps. Access can be gained via the front or rear. There are toilet provisions on the ground floor. We would advise wheelchair users or those with limited mobility to contact The Barn to ensure a car park space is reserved at the rear if possible although there are on street parking options for disabled Blue Badge users at the front of the building.
Where can I contact the organiser with any questions? Feel free to get in touch via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or direct to the course tutor direct, if details have been provided. Is my registration/ticket transferrable? If you find that you cannot attend then you are welcome to pass your place on to a friend who may find it useful. Please let The Barn and /or the organiser know if you need to do this. Alternatively, tickets can be transferred to a future workshop up to 14 days before the event itself.
Do I have to bring my e-mail confirmation to the event? A register will be taken at the workshop so it isn’t necessary to print your ticket. In fact, we’d prefer you didn’t to save the paper & the environment! What is the refund/cancellation policy? Refunds will be offered in the event of the class being cancelled. In this scenario, we will give as much notice as possible and offer alternative dates if appropriate. This class does have a minimum requirement of ticket sales for it to proceed so there is a possibility of it being cancelled. However, we will aim to contact you with at least 3-5 days notice if this is the case. If for any reason you find you are unable to attend, then please get in touch and a refund (less any non refundable deposit) can be offered up to 14 days before the workshop . After this period and within 14 days of an event, we are unable to offer a refund.
What can or should I bring into the event? It is recommended to wear comfortable/old clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty and an apron to most workshops. Light refreshments will be provided along with biscuits but you are welcome to bring your own snacks, particularly if your course runs over lunch or you have special dietary requirements. Please inform the venue should you have a nut allergy 7 days prior to attending the workshop. Course tutors will provide all necessary tools, equipment & materials unless specified
