Beginners Sewing Course | 4 Week

An event every week that begins at 2:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until October 23, 2021

Workshop Duration: Each session: 2 hours. Total course: 8 hours
Workshop Tutor: Courtney Rapple
Age: 14+. Teens must be accompanied by an adult
Skills Learnt: Sewing Machine skills & techniques.
What you will create & take home:
Week 1: Fabric storage box (skills – filling a bobbin, threading machine, tension, straight sewing, using a seam allowance)
Week 2: Pin Cushion & sewing notions caddy (skills – adding pockets/layers to items, patchwork, turning out, stuffing)
Week 3: Envelope cushion with buttons. (skills – buttonholes)
Week 4: Lined zipped storage bag (skills – lining, adding zips)
What’s provided: All sewing equipment – scissors, tape measures etc. All materials, threads & notions. Sewing machines provided if you don’t want to bring your own.
What’s included: Barista Coffee or Tea & locally made cake.
Under the guided tuition of Courtney Rapple, who has over 15 years experience in sewing, a BA Hons in interior design & 6 years experience teaching Art & Textiles, you will be given a guided tour of the sewing machine. You will learn how to properly thread your machine, how to perform basic, regular maintenance to keep your machine in top condition & how to create a variety of sewn items using a range of skills.
Once you have learnt to thread the machine you will make a fabric storage basket to keep all of those lovely little sewing notions in.
The following week you will make a pin cushion with a front pocket that will hold your sewing scissors, pins & clips.
After that we will move onto an envelope cushion with machined buttonholes.
Finally, we will complete the course with a fully lined zippered storage/cosmetic bag.
Option to pay 50% deposit to secure place. Balance of workshop payable at the start of Week 1.
